Why has my group no members and no submissions?

The default settings when a new group are made on dA are that everything is closed. In other words it refuses members from joining, and leaves any new folders in the gallery unshared so no one can submit anything to them. When I set up my first group, I had no idea of this, and only discovered about it when a fellow deviant let me know. So I'm passing it on in the hopes that someone else might find it useful.

Firstly to allow members to join.

Go to the Admin panel of the group in which you're an admin.

Select the Manage Members button on the left.

IMPORTANT: Scroll down to members on the left hand menu.

On the right hand pane under "Join Requests" select "Are Subject to Vote..." or "Are Automatically Approved..." depending on your preference.

Now members will be able to join the group. :iconcheerplz:

TO SHARE NEWLY CREATED FOLDERS

In the members area as described above, scroll down on the right hand panel to the "On Gallery, Members:" section and click on "Show All Folders"

You will then need to go to each folder INDIVIDUALLY and set submissions to "Are Subject to Vote" or "Are Automatically Approved" as required. There's a lot of personal preference here, but I've found that the best settings are to automatically approve all folders EXCEPT the "Featured" folder, which I have subject to vote. This is usually impetus enough for members to go and use the correct folders where possible. You'll always change the settings as you go on anyway.

Having gone in and change the settings in the members area, you may need to go into "Contributors" and Co-Founders and change their settings, or give them more access.

IMPORTANT
Don't forget to click the Save Now or you'll have to do it aaaaaalllll again!

So that's the basics.

If you want more information, this tutorial by :iconjrcnrd: JRCnrd has more details, and they have also done up a group starter pack which you may find helpful also.

Hope this helps,

Having come across several groups on dA with no members in their group I realised that many people have been as confused as I was in setting up my first group here on dA.

If you're wondering why you have no members or no submissions in your new group, this tutorial is for you.

UPDATE: Since dA switched to Eclipse they have changed the default group settings so this may no longer be needed.
